 We have translated a Cognitive Psychology book prepared in the light of the latest developments into Turkish with the 1-year work of the Translation Group. This book is the first textbook to incorporate neuroscience into cognitive science studies. The authors of the book have concluded that it is necessary to examine the cognitive process with a different approach than the books written with the cognitive approach shaped according to the framework created by Donald Broadbent, especially in the late 1950s. He evaluated the latest developments in the field together with the experts of each department. After 5 years of work, this book was prepared.

The authors of the book used findings from neuroscience studies to illuminate important issues in cognitive psychology, rather than merely presenting neuroscience facts and study findings in a context limited to this field, or listing separately the contributions of cognitive psychology and neuroscience to the literature. In this book, the concept of "short-term memory" has been replaced by the concept of "working memory". In addition, it has now been understood that emotion and attention have key roles in the regulation of information processing. It has been seen that these systems are important not only in the "input" process, but also in the "output" process.
Decision making, problem solving and motor cognition and warning sections have been added to the sections on executive functions with a “new approach unlike other books”. Individuals communicate with other people. For this reason, the other subject examined in this book has been the subject of "language". In this book, the most up-to-date information about cognitive processes is presented to academicians and students.

En son gelişmelerin ışığında hazırlanmış bir Bilişsel Psikoloji kitabını Çeviri Grubunun 1 yıllık çalışması ile Türkçeye kazandırdık. Bu kitap, sinirbilimi bilişsel bilim çalışmaları içine dahil eden ilk ders kitabı olma özelliğindedir. Kitabın yazarları özellikle 1950lerin sonlarında Donald Broadbent tarafından oluşturulan çerçeveye göre şekillendirilen bilişsel yaklaşımla yazılmış kitaplardan daha farklı bir yaklaşımla bilişsel sürecin incelenmesinin gerekli olduğu sonucuna varmışlardır. Her bölümün uzmanları ile birlikte alandaki son gelişmeleri değerlendirmiş. 5 yıllık bir çalışmanın soncunda bu kitabı hazırlamışlardır.

Kitabın yazarları, sadece sinir bilime ilişkin gerçekleri ve çalışma bulgularını bu alanla sınırlı bir bağlamda sunmak veya bilişsel psikoloji ve sinirbilimin literatüre katkılarını ayrı ayrı sıralamak yerine bilişsel psikolojideki önemli konuların aydınlatılmasında sinirbilim çalışmalarından elde edilen bulguları kullanmışlardır. Bu kitapta “Kısa süreli bellek” konsepti “çalışma belleği” konseptiyle yer değiştirmiştir. Ek olarak günümüzde bilgi işleme sürecinin düzenlenmesinde emosyon (duygu) ve dikkatin kilit rollerinin olduğu da anlaşılmıştır. Bu sistemlerin sadece “girdi” sürecinde değil, “çıktı” sürecinde de önemli olduğu görülmüştür.

Yönetici işlevlerle ilgili bölümlere “diğer kitaplardan farklı olarak yeni bir yaklaşımla” karar verme, problem çözme ve motor biliş ve uyarı bölümleri de eklenmiştir. Bireyler diğer insanlarla iletişim içindedir. Bu nedenle bu kitapta incelenen diğer konuda “dil” konusu olmuştur. Bu kitapta bilişsel işlemler hakkında en güncel bilgiler akademisyen ve öğrencilere sunulmaktadır.
